2018

Research IISH finances. For Huub Sanders' research on the history of the IISH, Joppe Schaaper made an inventory of the institute's finances for the period 1935-1989.

Acquisition of items for A.C. Bakels collection. With help from the Friends, Frank de Jong was able to acquire an addition to the archive of A.C. Bakels (https://search.socialhistory.org/Record/ARCH00015). This is a mix of archival material: manuscripts, typescripts and some documentation, mainly newspaper clippings.

Acquisition of postcards by Ernst Kallai. Procurement of two postcards with New Year's greetings, signed by Ernst Kallai, dating from December 1933.

Data processing Electronic Repository of Russian Historical Statistics. This data hub, a project by Gijs Kessler, makes a number of basic indicators of social and economic development in Russia available for international comparative research. Olav Hofland edited the data and made them available for online distribution. Part of his costs were paid by the Friends.

2017

Quellensammlung zur Geschichte der deutschen Sozialpolitik 1867-1914. In 2017, with the help of the Friends, the IISH was able to complete the series Quellensammlung zur Geschichte der deutschen Sozialpolitik 1867-1914. To this end, 11 missing volumes were purchased from the series, which consists of 26 volumes in total (some of which comprise several volumes). The entire series was also catalogued with the help of the Friends.

2016

Purchase Spravočnik Gollandskoj promyšlennosti, torgovli i zemledelija. The Friends sponsored the acquisition of this 1948 book which presents Dutch trade and industry to the Soviet Union. With a contribution by N.W. Posthumus: 'Torgovlja Gjollandii v Rossiej v prošlom', pp. 21-23. The book is available here.

2015

Photo report IISH. Commissioned by the Friends, Peter van Beek made a photoreportage of the IISH.

Purchase of letters by Leonie Rouzade. These are two original letters from the French feminist, politician, journalist and writer. The first letter, dated 22 January 1902, is addressed to a friend, probably Alix Lebey, and deals with the death of her husband Auguste Rouzade. In the second, dated 28 July 1915 and addressed to Alix Lebey, she writes about his upcoming visit, her state of mind, the current situation and the translation of her work.

2014

Acquisition of letters by Jules Simon. This is a collection of letters in the handwriting of and signed by Jules Simon.

Purchase of Arthur Lehning materials. These documents were purchased from the Rotes Antiquariat in Berlin.

Acquisition of Turkish collection. A collection of documents from the Dersim region of Turkey that is important for Kurdish culture and history.

Digitisation of film. The Friends supported the digitisation of If we, the living, die, a film by the Dutch Workers' Association for Cremation.

Research Johannes van den Bosch. The Friends supported Angelie Sens' research for A Kingdom at Work. Johannes van den Bosch (1780-1844), reformer in a global context.

Research funding. Thanks to special donations from two individual Friends, the following research projects were also funded:

  • Women's Work in the Northern Netherlands in the Early Modern Period (c. 1500-1815)
  • Work, Income and the State in Russia and the Soviet Union, 1900-2000
