Studied economic and social history at the University of Utrecht from 1975-1982. Acquired his PhD in 1993. Senior researcher at the Nederlandsch Economisch Historisch Archief (NEHA) and IISH till 2014. Since 2014 till February 2022 research staff member for collection development, responsible for economic history, business history, entrepreneurial history and biographies of entrepreneurs.

Since 1993 Member of the Editorial Board of the Low Countries Journal of Economic and Social History (Tijdschrift voor Sociale en Economische Geschiedenis). Since 2002 Staff Member of the Researchgroup Bedrijfsleven in Nederland in de twintigste eeuw (BINT) (The Dutch Business System in the twentieth century). He is also the composer of a database on Dutch entrepreneurs.
Main interests: economic history of the Netherlands (1800-2000), business history, entrepreneurial history, biographies of entrepreneurs.
